Donna: Check for signs of life.
>...Are they alive?
The moving black dots you just barely managed to notice and can't POSSIBLY identify with any believable pretense of accuracy?
Those are called WOLVES.
A life of isolation in untamed forests several hours from actual civilization is not without its drawbacks. If you were to rate how far back they draw exactly, wolves would be WAY UP THERE, labeled "PRETTY FUCKING FAR." Admire though you might their CALCULATING RUTHLESSNESS, there is just something disturbing about their mockery of the comedic archetype of dogs harassing postal workers. Every so often a hapless stranger in uniform reaches your doorstep too late at night to make it out of the woods alive. Their screams of terror are infectious, and their corpses are ones you know you'll never find.
It does not please you to find that YOUR NEMESIS AS A SPECIES has followed you out of the mortal realm. But there's no question they're THE ONLY PACK ANIMALS that would drag away the bodies like that.
NO QUESTION.
